Pinkkiä ja ruutua / Pink and squares

Kokeilin rypytystekniikkaa tällä kertaa Eurokankaan pilkkukankaaseen. Pinkki sävy on kovin vahva, ja mekon malli vähän hukkuu siihen. Ehkä pilkutkin ovat vähän kaukana toisistaan, ja mekko levenee outoon malliin. Hyvin se pysyy kuitenkin päällä ilman hihoja tai kaulusta.

I made another dress with smocking polka dot techinique. The pink is such a strong shade on this fabric, that the smocking is a bit hard to see in real life. There dress holds up on the monkey girl very well, but it seems to have very odd form. I think the polka dots are too far apart so the broadening of the dress is odd.

Toinen mekko on tehty ruutukankaasta, tähän testasin hihojen ja kaulusten tekoa. Huomaatteko, kuinka yläosassa ei näy ruutuja punaisilla ympyröillä? Ne on rypytetty piiloon. Kangas ei ilmene edukseen tässä mekossa mielestäni, mekko on vähän mitään sanomaton =/

The second dress is made of square patterned fabric, I made sleeves and collar. Do you notice, how there are no squared with red circles on the top? They smocked inside. The fabric though doesn't look its best on this dress, the dress looks pale =/

Leijonan uudet vaatteet / New dress for lioness

Innostuin pupurouvalle tekemästäni mekosta niin, että sama piti toteuttaa rouva leijonallekin. Alunperin en ole ollut kovin innostunut leijonista, mutta hiljalleen mieltymys kasvoi. Leijonat ovat isompia kuin muut, mutta sehän vain tarkoittaa isompaa taloa ja isompia huonekaluja, ja ainakin jälkimmäisiä on enemmän saatavilla.

I was inspired by the dress for miss Snow-Warren, that I had to make one for mrs lion too. When I first got her, I wasn't excited at all. But slowly she grew on me, and with clothes she is even more dear to me. She's big, but that only means bigger house and bigger furniture, which is easier to make and buy.

Myönnän että mekon tekoon meni melko kauan. Jokaisen supun tekemiseen tarvitaan monta pistoa ja solmua. Mutta kyllä se kannatti, pidän hänestä entistä enemmän tässä mekossa. Molemmat olkaimet ovat irroitettvat mekon pukemisen helpottamiseksi, samoin toiseen sivuun tuli halkio. 

It took quite a long time to make the dres. So many dots to smock! For easier clothing both straps and side are open and closed with buttons.

Rypytettyä / Some smocking

 Aiemmin esittelemäni pandojen mekot on tehty tällä pilkkujen rypytystekniikalla. Pilkkukangasta ei sattunut olemaan saatavilla, joten käytin säännöllistä kukkakuviota. Ensimmäinen kokeilu, musta mekko rouva pandalle onnistui yli odotusten! Kiinnitin ohuesta silkkinauhasta lähes näkymättömät olkaimet mekkoon, jotta se pysyy hyvin päällä. Tekniikka toimii myös ruutukuviolla kuten vihreästä mekosta näkee.

 The dresses fo the pandas were made with this smocking polka dot technique. I didn't have polka dot pattern fabric, so I used black with symmetric white flowers. The dress for Mother Panda was a success! I made straps from silk ribbon, they are meant to be invisible. The techique works for diamond pattern too, as you can see from the green dress. 

Ihastuneena tekniikkaan kokeilin hihojen tekoa, tällä kertaa pilkkukankaasta. En osaa neuvoa kuinka, päätin rypytyksen sitä mukaa kun mekkoa tein. Tekniikalla oli vaikeaa saada tiukka kaulus, mutta se ei minua haittaa. Olen kovin ihastunut tekniikkaan, yläosasta tulee mielenkiintoinen ja helma avautuu siitä kauniisti. Helman leveys riippuu kankaan kuvion koosta.

My next experiment was making armseyes. I decided to try polka dot pattern fabric this time. The blue dress turned out awesome for miss Snow-Warren! I can't give instructions for these, because I go with what looks good along working on it. It's hard to get it tight around neck, but I don't mind. Technique gives interesting top for a dress, and the hem comes so nicely from the folds. The width of the dress depends on the pattern size of the fabric.
